It is very important to me that my clients choose a reputable and professional printing lab. It makes all the difference. The costs are typically just as affordable as other options such as one-hour or same-day, and the turnaround is quite quick. Some of my favorite places for my personal and professional work alike are mpix.com, nationsphotolab.com, and artifactuprising.com. Please let me know if I can assist you in this process. I'm happy to help!
| Frequently asked questions |
You've booked a session with Ashley, now what?
Please feel free to ask any questions - Ashley is happy to help!
After your session you will receive a link to access your own personal gallery and store. The images that are made viewable to you are low-resolution, watermarked images. As you peruse your gallery you can easily add an image or several images to your cart. Edited images are $10 per photo (includes a color and B&W version). Once you've submitted payment for your selections you will be notified by email that Ashley has received your order! You can expect your disk of digital edited images by mail within 2-3 weeks. Your disk will include a digital PDF of your copyright release so that you can print your images at any lab of choice, in any size or quantity you prefer. Although lab choice is entirely up to you, Ashley highly recommends Nations Photo Lab, Mpix or Miller's Lab. Their pricing is very reasonable and the quality is great! Here is an article, showing a side by side comparison of printing labs and why you might want to consider printing your professional portraits with a professional lab.
I'm not sure how to style my family for their session?
I get this question a lot! Generally, I have my clients head over to Gap Kids Lookbook available on the Gap Facebook Page. Please don't feel obligated to dress your child(ren) and/or family up in name brand clothes - this guide just helps with styling. Mixed patterns and various popping colors can work; but keep an eye on it - you don't want it to take away from the faces in the portrait. Be yourself, that is the biggest advice I can give you! Comfort over style, always. Well, almost always. Your portraits might not have the appeal you're looking for if everyone's in sweats. ;)
How far should I book in advance?
To be safe, you should book 3 weeks prior to the time-frame you're thinking of having your portraits done. I try to leave my schedule with enough flexibility to rearrange (especially if the weather is not cooperating), but in the spring, summer, and fall my schedule becomes much harder to manipulate.
How big are the digital images on my CD?
They are big. Most likely, you could print them larger than poster size without losing any quality at all.
Can I bring my Pinterest ideas and other things I like?
Absolutely. I am open to work with whatever ideas you've got. With that being said, I am hopeful that you will also allow me to photograph what inspires me about you. I gear my work around natural exposures more so than staged sessions. However, I do find staged shots to be creative and fun as well!
Why are newborn, extended family, and senior portraits more expensive than a traditional portrait session?
Newborn sessions often go up and over two hours - there should be ample time for changing, feeding, and soothing (no stress on mama bear or cub due to time crunching). A bit more production goes into extended family sessions as there are more individuals to work with and coordinate. Generally, I will shoot several images of the entire family and then break individual families off to photograph them separately. Senior portrait sessions typically include more than one outfit and location change and often last up to two hours.
Will you take care of ordering prints or products for me? I'd like help with design.
Yes, you can commission a custom work order with me. I am happy to order prints and/or products for you and find out how you'd like to exhibit your fine art portraits. Please inquire with me and we will discuss all of your options! This is a great option if (despite your wish not to) - your images generally stay in their digital format and never reach your walls.
What does my copyright release entail?
Your copyright release allows you to print your images at any photo lab, in any quantity, in any size you wish. You may also share your photos on social networking sites and through email. Essentially, I am giving you permission to use your purchased edits in any way you wish!
How long have you been in the biz?
I started collecting money for my artwork in 2009. However, initially all contributions were for fundraising and charity events. I didn't start really delving in until late in 2010 when I realized that documenting the lives of others needed to be a part of my life on a continual basis. Each and every person has an incredible story and it's really an honor for me to be able to capture that.
Where should we do our session?
I am a big advocate for shooting right in the comfort of your home. This gives us the opportunity to document your lifestyle; your family cozied up in bed, your tots playing with their toys, sitting at the dinner table, etc. These are the moments that will evoke the most emotion for you when you look back at your photos in the years to come. I appreciate the need for more posed shots and have found that despite what you may think, this can work in your home or backyard as well!
I also like the current trend of shooting in fields, vineyards, parks, by the lake, in the woods - just about anywhere outside that your heart desires sounds good to me! If you're coming up short with ideas, please send me a note and we will put our heads together and find the perfect spot.
During our session can we go to more than one location? Can I wear more than one outfit?
I am happy to go to more than one location! You can change your clothes as much as you wish! Just remember that your session is one hour long including travel time to other locations and time to change gear - please inquire for rates over one hour.
